Who’s the copycat? “It’s Apple that copies us” said HTC!
HTC has denied that they copied Apple iPhone 6 design for their latest flagship smartphone HTC One A9. Moreover, HTC revealed that “it’s Apple that copies us”…
We can feel the heat of this discussion is increasing day by day. Just after we heard and saw the first leaks of HTC One A9, things were started since it looked like a current Apple iPhone. Then, after the HTC One A9 launch, this new device of HTC has been receiving a lot of complaints mainly saying that it copied the Apple iPhone design.
Of course, when it is no longer a simple talk, HTC has to raise their voice to protect themselves and their newborn handset. At a press briefing in Taiwan, Jack Tong, president of HTC North Asia, said that “it’s Apple that copies us” in terms of design as they were the first to introduce a metal unibody smartphone about 3 years ago.
“We’re not copying. We made a uni-body metal-clad phone in 2013. It’s Apple that copies us in terms of the antenna design on the back,” said Mr. Tong at a press briefing in Tawain on the HTC One A9 release date.
Besides, he added that the One A9 is thinner and lighter than previous HTC metal-clad phones, which is considered as a change and evolution. And if there has to be a copycat, it is Apple, not HTC.
If you remember, there was an HTC One M7 launched in March, 2013 with an aluminum unibody frame and plastic antenna lines across the phone. 18 months later, Apple announced iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with similar looks and carried over to iPhone 6s line-up. So, who is right and who is wrong?

In conclusion, though we cannot be 100% sure that HTC One A9 did not copy iPhone 6 or vice versa, it is clear that both phone makers have borrowed or at least got “inspired” by a similar design from each other over the years. We wonder what will happen next. Whether Apple will take legal action against HTC for this case? Let’s wait and see!
Huawei beats Xiaomi to be NO.1 in China’s smartphone shipment
With 81% year-on-year shipment growth, Huawei has become the champion of China’s Smartphone Battle. Congrats!
Huawei beats Xiaomi to be NO.1 in China’s smartphone shipment
According to a new survey, Huawei was able beat Xiaomi to get the top spot No. 1 smartphone market in the world in the Q3 of 2015. It also was the first year-over-year decline in phone shipments of Xiaomi. Things are changing!
Specifically, Canalys, a research firm stated that the phone shipments of Xiaomi fell 8% in the quarter 3 while those of Huawei jumped 81% but without specifics of their market-share data. In the Q2, Xiaomi used to have a 15.9% share of the market and Huawei 15.7% share, yet we think the numbers are going to be different in the last 3 months.
In fact, this result is not very surprising since Huawei is one of “the world’s largest suppliers of networking gear used by telecommunications carriers” and is expanding their smartphone business. Back to the second quarter, Huawei was reported to be the “world’s third-largest smartphone vendor behind Samsung Electronics Co. and Apple Inc.” and almost half of the Huawei’s handsets have been mainly sold in the markets of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. They are actually growing pretty well though their machines’ prices are higher than those of Xiaomi in general: Huawei’s average smartphone sales price was $282 (RM1,190) while Xiaomi’s was $149 (RM630) in China in the Q2.
On the other hand, we wonder if Xiaomi can still be able to complete their target of selling 80-100 million smartphones globally this year. If in the first half of 2015 Xiaomi said they sold out 34.7 million units, they will have to sell 46 million or more and now their shipment growth is decreasing.
Anyhow, Xiaomi conpany has replied that “the China market is still big enough. Xiaomi’s focus is user experience and product innovation, and not just specifically seeking flashy numbers and the top market seat” in a Weibo post written by Xiaomi’s spokesman Tony Wei.
In conclusion, we would like to congratulate Huawei on their new achievement but they also should keep doing well like that because Xiaomi is not just a small manufacturer; they can get back on track any time.

Rumor: ASUS ZenFone 3 smartphone Launch in 2016 with 6GB Ram
Some people think that ASUS will be able to repeat their success with ASUS ZenFone 2 – the world’s first phone coming with 4GB RAM, with a device called ASUS ZenFone 3. It will can also be the world’s first 6GB RAM smartphone, not the Samsung Galaxy S7. Who knows, right?
Earlier, some said the ASUS ZenFone 3 would come with 5GB RAM, which had already blown us away. However, it was before Samsung announced their 6GB RAM for smartphones. As a result, our logic is that ASUS will grab this chance to join the 6GB RAM battle with their third generation of ASUS ZenFone!
As for the ASUS ZenFone 3 specs, we hope that the company will equip it with the top features at the time it is released. The trend now is 2K resolution and predicted to be 4K next year. Therefore, the case in which ASUS ZenFone 3 smartphone boasts a 5.5-inch Quad HD display is totally possible. About the processor, maybe Zen 3 would still use a chip from Intel, but it should be something like Intel Atom Z3590 2.5GHz or better. In addition, we’ve got 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage as what are expected to be on-board as well.
In terms of camera, it would be the best if ASUS ZenFone 3’s snappers are capable of at least 16MP plus OIS on the back and 8MP on the front. Then, those who love taking photos or selfies would feel extremely happy. The whole machine would be powered by a 3,500mAh battery, yet it could be more like 4,000mAh and above.
Asus Zenfone 3 Release Date and Price
Though, the above information has not been confirmed by the manufacturer. Just take it with a pinch of salt ;). Most likely the Asus Zenfone 3 will launch in March 2016. The Asus Zenfone 3 Price will be around the same as Zenfone 2. We really hope that Asus will do the same Marketing Stunt for their new Asus phone and be the first to have 6GB RAM worldwide. Anyhow, the concept is so “delicious”, right?! We really hope it will see the light some day!
Nokia Morph: Smartphone of the future when Nokia comes back!
We have Nokia C1, Nokia Swan, and Nokia Power Ranger as the best current smartphone concepts expected to be made by Finnish company Nokia. And today we want to add one more into the series: Nokia Morph.
Actually, unlike the others, Nokia Morph concept used to be unveiled on February 25, 2008 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. It was the product of a joint study into the future of mobile phones by the Nokia Research Center and the University of Cambridge’s Nanoscience Centre. Moreover, they presented Morpth as part of the museum’s “Design and The Elastic Mind” exhibit.
“Nokia Research Center is looking at ways to reinvent the form and function of mobile devices… The Morph concept shows what might be possible,” said Bob Iannucci, Nokia’s chief technology officer.
Accordingly, Morph shows that the future of phones may be stretchable, flexible, and even able to let users transform their machines into different shapes. Besides, it also demonstrates what nano-tech can deliver: flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces. More specifically, whether you want your device to be a tablet, a music player, or a normal smartphone, Nokia Morph will do it all. As we can see, this Nokia product can feature 3 modes: Standard, bracelet and landscape.
At that time, people predicted the Morph’s elements could be available to integrate into high-end smartphones within 7 years, which is 2015 or 2016. Unfortunately, perhaps we have to wait until next year to see such tech. And who knows, it will probably come true along with the Nokia’s comeback. But, let’s say, recently Samsung has also been rumored to use the flexible tech for their handsets in the future. So, we do not know who is going to be the volunteer in this kind of field.
Anyhow, back to our Morph, do you like the Nokia Morph design? Tell us!
Best Chinese smartphones of each price range (RM750-RM2,000) – H2 2015
Things are going “crazy” on the mobile market. New smartphones are introduced almost every month and we can say that you may feel confused and dizzy once trying to find the most suitable one for yourself. That is why we come up with this list with some potential suggestions for each price range. 😀
~RM750: Xiaomi Redmi Note 2
Equipped with high-end specs like many flagship phones and a super affordable price, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 has really been successful in impressing consumers these days.
This happens because Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 specs include so many top features but just go with about RM700 for Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 price in Malaysia. This is also the reason why Redmi Note 2 has not been announced officially here in Malaysia but lots of people still look for it at retail stores.
In terms of design, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 owns a plastic cover which is usually seen in many mid-range devices. However, the Note 2’s slim body and big display make it hard for many buyers to believe that it can have such a price.

Chinese MAX war: Asus Zenfone Max VS Huawei P8 Max VS Vivo X5 Max VS LeTV One Max
Nowadays, many manufacturers will create some versions or variants for their flagship smartphones to bring people more choices and also to “emphasize” their new products. The ones that are usually used are NOTE, PRO, MAX and PLUS. If we have already had the NOTE and PRO war, why don’t we continue with the MAX battle? It is such a great idea 😀 . So, let’s get started!
Vivo, ASUS, Huawei, and LeTV to join the Chinese MAX BATTLE – The winner is…
As usual, we begin with the specifications comparison to see if they are the same kind of variant (MAX) but different in terms of specs.
Actually, they are very different from each other!
Vivo X5 Max is proud of being one of the slimmest phones in the world and also in this battle. Though we do not know the dimensions of ASUS ZenFone Max, ASUS does not have the tradition of making thin devices. Then, X5 Max is still the champion in the thickness comparison.
Basing on the specs and prices, we can classify them into 3 main groups. In general, we would want to put ASUS ZenFone Max into the mid-range phone group, Vivo X5 Max into the upper-middle range and Huawei P8 Max plus LeTV One Max into the high-end one.
What we notice immediately is that 3 out of 4 use chips from Snapdragon while only Huawei P8 Max uses their own processor, produced by Huawei and just as strong as the latest one of Qualcomm (Snapdragon 810). That somehow makes P8 Max stand out, right?! Among the Snapdragon chipsets, SD810 is the most powerful but it has been reported to have heating issue for several times.
As for the RAM capacity, LeTV One Max beats all thanks to its 4GB RAM, the strongest one on the market now. Furthermore, LeTV also sports the best rear camera (capable of 21MP), promising to bring you extremely beautiful shots. However, One Max does not do very well at battery. It is ASUS ZenFone Max that get the first place here. 5,000mAh is a wonderful number for most smartphone users since they do not want to charge their handsets so many times. Good job, ASUS!
But, in terms of display, ASUS is the worst (just in this war 😉 ) when boasting only HD resolution. The best one belongs to LeTV One Max with Quad HD (aka 2K) and the others are good enough with Full HD.
Overall, LeTV One Max can be considered as the best MAX smartphone not only in today’s post but also one of the best on the shelves this year. Yet, it means that we cannot avoid an expensive price to come along, which cannot make it a totally persuasive winner as well.
So, which one can be? VOTE for your babe and share with us your opinions 🙂 .

China approved Nokia’s 17.6bn dollar acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent
Nokia is coming back and coming to China, the biggest market of the world. Specifically, China approved Nokia Oyj’s 17.6 billion dollar takeover of the French wireless-network rival Alcatel-Lucent SA. Besides, the last important antitrust approval necessary before the acquisition will be likely to be completed next year.
“The clearance in China completes the material antitrust review process required for the transaction,” said Nokia. Finally Nokia made it after keenly waiting for the Chinese clearance. At first, the company worried that the local authorities would delay the deal since some big telecoms equipment providers such as Huawei and ZTE might be directly much affected by the agreement between Alcatel-Lucent (a French company) and Nokia (Finnish) businesses.
With this decision by China’s Ministry of Commerce, it helps Nokia broaden its product offering and reduce costs when taking on Sweden’s Ericsson AB and China’s Huawei Technologies Co. In addition, it is said that Nokia expects the deal to be completed in the H1 of 2016, which is also the year seeing the Nokia comeback.
“It should not be an issue at all as Nokia has already taken firm employment engagement in France,” said Sebastien Sztabowicz, an analyst at Kepler Cheuvreux. He also added that the filing of the public exchange offer for Alcatel-Lucent securities and an approval from the Nokia’s shareholders (needing 50 per cent of votes to be passed) would be the next step.
“Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent will continue to co-operate with the French government to obtain formal approval from the Ministry of Economy, after which Nokia will proceed with the filing of the previously announced public exchange offer for Alcatel-Lucent securities,” said Nokia.
With this news and others related to Nokia these days, it is like Nokia is really beginning getting back on track. Hope that they will have good business in China as well in other parts of the world!

Swap OnePlus 2 for a Meizu PRO 5 – Do you dare?
We have seen OnePlus hold a “contest” where people exchange their Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, or Samsung Galaxy Note 5 for a free OnePlus 2. Of course the company will donate the phones to a charitable organization called Hope Phones to help bring medical tech to where it is needed. However, we think the idea just failed since those Samsung devices are much more expensive and powerful than an OP 2. But that is the story of OnePlus 2 and Samsung phones. Say, if OnePlus 2 can be exchanged for another one at its level, maybe the “contest” will be more… reasonable 😎 .
Lately, Meizu has announced that they are having a plan aiming at OnePlus 2 users. Accordingly, who is owning a OnePlus 2 can fill up a form and win a chance to swap their OP 2 for a Meizu PRO 5, which is like swapping a flagship for another flagship. The method is quite similar to OnePlus team, but this time, Meizu seems more rational. In one of their recent Facebook posts, they say:
“Want to swap your OnePlus phone for a Meizu PRO 5? Tell us why you want to #TurnTheHeatOff and you could win!”
| OnePlus 2 Specs | Meizu Pro 5 Specs | |
| Dimensions | 151.8 x 74.9 x 9.9 mm | 156.7 x 78 x 7.5 mm |
| Weight | 175 g | 168 g |
| Display | 5.5-inch Full HD (~401 ppi) LTPS LCD | 5.7-inch Full HD (~386) AMOLED |
| OS | Oxygen 2.1 UI based on Android OS, v5.1 (Lollipop) | Flyme 5.0 based on Android v5.1 Lollipop |
| Processor | Snapdragon 810 | Exynos 7420 |
| ROM | 16/64 GB (non-expandable) | 32/64 GB (expandable up to 128 GB) |
| RAM | 3/4 GB | 3/4 GB |
| Camera | Rear: 13 MP, optical image stabilization, laser autofocus, dual-LED flashFront: 5 MP, 1080p@30fps | Rear: 21 MP, phase detection & laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flashFront: 5 MP, 1080p@30fps |
| Battery | Non-removable Li-Po 3300 mAh | Non-removable Li-Ion 3050 mAh |
| SIM | Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by) | Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by) |
| Color | Sandstone Black | Gray, Gold, Silver, Black/Silver |
| Price | 16GB+3GB: $329 (~RM1,420)64GB+4GB: $389 (~RM1,680) | 32GB+3GB: 2,799 Yuan (~RM1,900)64GB+4GB: 3,099 Yuan (~RM2,100) |
In terms of dimensions and weights, we can easily recognize that the Meizu Pro 5 is thinner, lighter and more colorful (we mean Pro 5 has more color options for you to choose) than the OP 2 (coming with just Sandstone Black). Furthermore, the display of Pro 5 measures 5.7 inches, bigger than the 5.5-inch one of OnePlus 2 with the same Full HD resolution. Nonetheless, we do not think the size really matters, and 5.7 inches can even make it harder for you to hold or put in your pocket.
As for the RAM and ROM, they are quite similar when splitting into 2 versions for 3GB and 4GB RAM. Yet, we guess that Pro 5 will be liked more since it has an expandable internal storage (up to 128GB) while OP 2 does not.
Next, we should definitely talk about camera. It is not difficult to realize that Meizu has very generously equipped their smartphone with an awesome rear shooter of 21 megapixels. Wow, that’s a lot! Anyhow, at some point such as battery, OP 2 beats Meizu Pro 5 although the difference is not big. OP 2 has a 3,300mAh batt while Pro 5 only has a 3,050mAh one.
Well, those are some differences in specs. In general, we can say that Meizu Pro 5 is kind of better than OnePlus 2. And looking at the prices, there is no doubt that Meizu Pro 5 price is more than OnePlus 2 price, which means that you get no loss in this deal, don’t you?!
That’s what we think. But, what do you think?
HTC One A9: 5″ AMOLED, new Snapdragon 617 and Android 6.0 out of the box
Finally, some authentic information about HTC One A9 has been available and it is known as the first smartphone (besides Nexus) to come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS out of the box. Apart from that, we also know other official HTC One A9 specs. Check them out:
| HTC One A9 Specs | |
| Dimensions | 145.8 x 70.8 x 7.3 mm |
| Weight | 143 g |
| Display | 5.0-inch Full HD (~441 ppi) AMOLED |
| OS | Android OS, v6.0 (Marshmallow) |
| Processor | Snapdragon 617 |
| ROM | 16/32 GB (expandable up to 200 GB) |
| RAM | 2/3 GB |
| Camera | Rear: 13 MP, optical image stabilization, autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flashFront: 4 MP, 1080p |
| Battery | Non-removable Li-Ion 2150 mAh |
| SIM | Nano-SIM |
| Color | Carbon Gray, Opal Silver, Topaz Gold, Deep Garnet |
Definitely HTC One A9 is not a phablet but a real smartphone with a size of 5 inches suitable for you to put it in your pocket. Moreover, it is the first device not only in the HTC house but also in the world since Snapdragon 817 is the latest chip produced by Qualcomm, made for mid-end devices yet pretty closer to the high-end spectrum. Specifically, it supports X8 LTE with Cat 7 and speeds of up to 200Mbps down and 100Mbps up. Furthermore, the chip’s dual-ISPs will allow the phone to take up to 21MP photos and with 8 cores, SD817 can be clocked up to 1.5GHz.
As for the RAM, consumers will have 2 options: 2GB and 3GB RAM depending on the version. In addition, A9 has a combo of 13MP rear and 4MP front snapper (which is lower than most phones on the market). However, one thing that can be a plus for the A9 is its ability capturing RAW and Hyperlapse (stabilized time-lapse) videos.
A fingerprint is also built in the home button and able to unlock your device even while the screen is turned off. The whole machine is powered by a 2,150 mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0 (and 3.0) support that can help charge your batt super fast yet as long as you have a proper 15W HTC charger.
In terms of HTC One A9 price and availability, it will be released next month November in Opal Silver, Carbon Grey, Deep Garnet and Topaz Gold color. We are pretty close to the day! Unfortunately, HTC One A9 price as well as HTC One A9 price in Malaysia has not been confirmed yet but rumored to be 599,9 euro (~RM2,900). We will come back with more details later 🙂 !
In conclusion, we would like to welcome HTC One A9 to the smartphone world. No matter how similar to an Apple iPhone it looks, A9 is still a new device that sports different features and perhaps even stronger than the iPhone. What do you think of it? Let us know 😉 !
