Half of Samsung’s fans at S6 launch event were fake ?!

Almost 1000 people attended the Samsung’s press conference a couple days ago in China. However, according to a report on The Paper, half of them were hired. The conference was held to introduce to the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to the China, the world’s biggest market.

People, under 30, dressing like like, students or Samsung fans were paid $4.80 (RM 17) for at least an hour to stay at the conference. The recruiters were also paid $3.20 (RM 12) for each person they recruited.

1

Those phones’ hired fans had to tell the press that they admired the company and they are curious about the new phone of the company. One interesting story is that half of the pictures of the new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were taken by the Apple iPhone. Some attendee were required to post pictures taken at the conference along with the name of the phone on WeChat app and like the Samsung Galaxy fan page, too.

Anyone who is after mobile news knows that 2014 was not a good year for Samsung. The company had lost its share in China, where Apple took over 27.6% market share. The iPhone 6 itself took 10.2%. Therefore, iPhone 6 is now the most popular smartphone in China, followed by Xiaomi Redmi and iPhone 6 Plus. In the attempt of getting fans back, Samsung had emphasized doing marketing for the flagships Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Is this the right move?

On their forums OnePlus offers a feedback App So you can directly give input about their new OS.

oxygen os

From our first looks, it looks very barebone and flat, somehow similar to Cyanogen MOD and pretty close to the pure Android Stock Feeling. From our feeling many OnePlus One users were disappointed when Cyanogen Mod and OnePlus announced that they will not continue the Collaboration together.

All about the fight between OnePlus and Cyanoged Mod Inc.

OnePlus One Oxygen OS Antutu Benchmark

Discussions between the two companies had ensued, after Cyanogen Mod Inc decided to support MicroMax India, and not OnePLus One phones with an exclusive contract. That despite having a worldwide exlusive contract with OnePlus. While now the situation seems to be better, expect that Oxygen OS and Hydrogen OS will be the future for OnePlus Devices like the upcoming OnePlus Two.

Here we have a few screenshots of Oxygen OS from our OnePLus One

If you want to try out the new OS based on Android Lollipop 5.0 just head over to oneplus.net/OxygenOS for a download link and detailed instructions.

HTC One M9 Plus phablet: physical button, MediaTek MT6795/Snapdragon 810

All eyes are on HTC these days as the company gave the official information about the upcoming One M8s. We also got the wind of the One M9 Plus and One E9.

Perhaps rumors about another version of One M9 are more interesting. Some reports said that it would be announced at an HTC event on April 8th. Other stated the phone would be on sale in China first then the other Asian markets.

4

We dont’s know exactly the name of this mystery phone but looking at the teaser images, One M9 Plus may be the good answer.

The most surprising part is the physical home button lying in the front of the device. There may be a fingerprint scanner embedded inside.

5

Some new images revealed by the @upleaks show that the phone make a backup the design hypothesis of the company. HTC One M9 and the unknown One M9 Plus share similar design but the differences are noticeable. First is the physical button, which may fill in for the traditional on-screen navigation scheme. We don’t know for sure whether these virtual button keep appearing on the new phone. Another significant change that we can see is the round rear camera on the back making place for the square one on One M9.

Render images also implied that the phone would be in 2 colors: silver and gold. Both versions have the China Mobile logo, where these render may come from printed on the back.

Previous leaks said the phone would have a 5.2-inch qHD display and 3GB RAM. Like the HTC One M9, the phone would have a high-quality 20.7MP rear camera and, maybe, a 4MP Ultrapixels front camera. The device would possibly come out with 2 versions. One is shipped with MediaTek MT 6795 processor for Asian Markets and one is powered by Snapdragon 810 chipset for others. Both come with G6200 GPU for graphic. As being said, the phone will have Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed along with HTC’s Sense 7 UI.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge comes out of the box with scratches, dead pixels and more

Imaging that working time is over, you walk home and a box with the new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is waiting for you at the door. How’s your feeling? Happy? Yes. Excited? Yes. How’s about when you open the box, take out the device and discover some dead pixels and scratches on the screen? Disappointed? Of course.

That is exactly the experience of somebody including rhcpcjg who posted on XDA website, complaining about this. The same situation happened the other night when he received the second phone from T-mobile. This guy returned both phone and ended up with an Apple iPhone 6.

For fear of your thinking this is just an expected event happening to someone, others had posted on XDA reporting the same situation of their Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. There so many complaining responses that few people have postponed their Galaxy S6 Edge orders. Most posts and comment are about the scratched screen and dead pixels on the brand-new Galaxy S6 Edge’s screen. They are angry because they have to spend a fortune for a phone that looks like a secondhand.

Unless you experience the same circumstance, do share with your thoughts or the way you handle with it. Did you return it and ask for another phone? Did the replaced phone come with a flawfless state? After check all the possibilities, is it Samsung’s fault or the responsibility are on another party?

Antutu report: Samsung is leading the game

Antutu has lately updated its own statistics about the recent state of performance in the smartphone industry as another quarter is now behind us. The numbers show an obvious fact that Samsung is the king of the realm, dominating the score board.

Data for the report has been collected from smartphone users in 160 countries over a period of 3 months from January to March 2015. Should it be easier to calculate the mean score for each device if the company gives them the same shipset for the same model. Owing to that, we have separate listing down here.

1

The Exynos 7420 on the Galaxy S6 vanishes every rival, even the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 on HTC One M9.Surprisingly, its sibling Galaxy S6 Edge shows a bit lower score than the Galaxy S6. The Galaxy S5 for European market takes the 4th place, proving Samsung’s position of the board. This model features a Snapdragon 805 chipset.

2

The only MeiaTek chipset in the chart is MT6595, which powers the Meizu MX4. This is also the highest ranking of a Chinese manufacturer listed this quarter, the 5th place. With Nexus 6 and Droid Turbo, Motorola takes the 6th and 8th places, both of which boast a Snapdragon 805 SoC. Though being equipped with Snapdragon 810, the LG G Flex 2 just spots in the 9th. What a shame! One big shock here is the OnePlus One powered by a Snapdragon 801, tiptoeing into the 10th place.

3

GPU score states similar affair where octa-core Mali T760 within the Exynos defeats Snapdragon 810’s Adreno 430. Last year, Exynos offered phone showed a lower score than those phone in the same range. But time flies, thing changes. Once again, the PowerVR 6200 inside the MT6595 can’t even beat the Adreno 330 in the Snapdragon 801. Who said Snapdragon 801 is out of the race?

Asus postpones Zenfone 2 India Launch to last week of April!

Asus’s fans in India get the bad news that the flagship killer Asus Zenfone 2 finally comes to their country, but later then planned. Unlike what being rumored by several reports earlier, the phone will be available in India only in the last week of April.

On the Asus’s facebook page, teaser image is shared with a line downside: “It’s April 1 and this flagship destroyer is for real”. This is such a plan as the Taiwanese company has successfully get people’s attention towards their new launch in the 2nd biggest country of all.

More than 2 variants of the Zenfone 2 will be released this time in India. They all follow the same pattern of a 5.5-inch 1080p display or a 5-inch 720p display, new ZenUI based on Android 5.0 Lollipop and featuring Intel Atom SoCs. There will be differnces in mobile chipset and RAM (2GB or 4GB). Each differs from the others in the internal memory but all can be expended via microSD card (up to 64GB).

Top-end Zenfone 2 ZE51ML boast a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a quad-core 2.3GHz Intel Atom Z3580 chipset, 4GB RAM, 13MP rear camera, Android 5.0 Lollipop, and 3,000 mAh battery. Other versions will be powered by a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3560 or a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 chipset.

The price for this awesome product was revealed last week, ranging from INR 9,900 (RM 583) to INR 19,900 (approximately RM 1172). We can only hope that Asus keeps the Plan for Malasyia and other countries like Indonesia the same. According to our latest information, Asus planned the Regional Launch for Indonesia and Malaysia for 22.4.

Samsung Galaxy S6 review: Samsung answers all critics with the new S6 flagship

It seems that Samsung got lost somehow with Galaxy S line before. From the first S line product, Galaxy S1, Samsung had made it not a flagship worthy bearing the standard for Android phones against Apple. However, with the launch of the Galaxy S6, the company has a chance to fight back.

Most of the criticism pointing at the Galaxy S5 have been fixed, the Galaxy S6 is just simply not as flashy as the Galaxy S6 Edge or other premium devices but it has its own attractiveness. Who said Samsung had lost its mojo?

Samsung Galaxy S6 – a glass design

Customers have been complaining about Samsung’s plastic phones for years. From the S1 in 2010 to the S5 in 2014, they were all plastic. Back to the old days, plastic phones were ok. But for now, why do we have to pay more than $500 (RM 1848) for a phone that itself looks cheap?

All thing has changed in the S6. Literally there’s no plastic on the outside of the phone. The front and back are covered with super-tough Gorillas Glass 4 and its sides are all aluminum.

While the Xperia Z3 also has similar glass and metal outlook, the curved glass makes it look softer and even narrower. The device bring a feeling of boxiness for users but the 6.8mm thickness is hard for adults.

Seeing this design and holding it in hands, we think Samsung should stop producing leather effect plastic phones earlier.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Storage

The S6’s unibody, which means you can’t dismount the back and take out the battery, makes it more premium, more expensive than any other Samsung phones launched last year.

5

That is ok but the company has also get rid of the memory card slot. This action maybe the response to Apple having success with selling 128GB iPhone. This is obviously a money-making move since many people are happy with a 32GB version anyway. If you want to upgrade into 64GB model, it will cost you RM 20 per month. There’s even a 128GB model available for those who want to spend RM 3180 on a phone.

Samsung Galaxy S6 – The thumb-lover

Not so many people care about the extra coming along with the phone when the basic is good already. Finally, Samsung has embed the fingerprint scanner in the home button, which is right under your thumb. Now instead of wipe over the home button, you just have to place you finger on it, like the iPhone Touch ID sensor.

6

The new scanner on Samsung Galaxy S6 works better than that on the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5. Should it not work, there is defenitely somthing wrong with your using.

Super AMOLED Display

The screen of the Galaxy S6 is quite amazing. Samsung did a leap up in the screen tech giving it qHD quality with density of 577 ppi stretching over the 5.1-inch screen.

7

Unless your eyes are as good as an eagle, you will not be able to see the pixels. However, the screen is not the biggest improvement on the Samsung Galaxy S6. The Galaxy S5 had that before. Both boast a Super AMOLED screen giving you flawless contract and deep black whether you are outside or in a cinema. You can also choose you a color palette for your phone: super vivid or more accurate and natural. This is not new but still a great feature anyway.

Android 5.0 Lollipop

The software seems familiar at first but some new stuff may cause some difficulties. The Galaxy S6 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop and has the latest version of Samsung’s custom UI.

On this Android 5.0 Lollipop, everything moves differently. When you tilt the phone, there’s a parallax effect on the wallpaper but the animation still don’t react towards them. It makes the phone better organized compared to older phones like Galaxy Note 4. It is a bit more business-like and that’s good.

Like HTC One M6, Galaxy S6 does adopt the themes. We can now change things such as the icons, wallpapers, widgets and system font. This is a full update. But there not much themes available. What Samsung can learn from from HTC One M9 is automatically creating a theme around a picture mechanism.

Other than that, the software is pretty good. The Samsung Touchwiz lags seem to have disappeared making the S6 a joy to use. There’s a couple of time when the phone paused for a second but it may be an early-software glitch rather than a standard performance problem.

Samsung Galaxy S6 specs: EXYNOS vs SNAPDRAGON

Untitled

The processor power of Galaxy S6 can’t be beaten either. Until March 2015, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge were condidered the most powerful phone in the market. Samsung uses its own Exynos 7420 CPU rather than a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip like the HTC One M9.

The top line Snapdragon 810 CPU is said to prone to overheat. That could possibly the reason why Samsung had such move. The Exynos turns out to be a good deal as well. We don’t really care much about it but the company had really done an amazing work.

11

Geekbench score shows that the Galaxy S6 is nearly 15% more powerful than its main rival at the moment, HTC One M9. The Exynos processor scored 4547 points while the top line Snapdragon only got 3959 points. This point can exceed some laptops.

The phone doesn’t get hot as well. That’s what impresses all of us. The phone just gets a bit warmer but it’s not as warm as what people experience using Sone Xperia Z3, another glass’n’metal phone. It gets hottest when charging as Samsung gives it turbo-charge.

It is alittle bit hard to explain how the company keeps it cool. The Galaxy S6’s Exynos 7420 CPU has transistors that are 14nm across, while the rival Snapdragon uses a 20nm process. The smaller the transistors are, the greater the efficiency is and the less energy waste as heat.

We are not sure how Samsung did it so far but it could create huge advantage with this phone generation.

Battery duration

It is undeniable that the more advanced the processor is, the larger the battery is needs. The Galaxy S6 has a 2,550 mAh battery, which is not much for 5.1-inch qHD display. But, endurance is spectacular overall. With one charge, the phone can survive 14hours video playing and a day and a half. Despite having a slightly smaller battery than the S6 Edge, it seems to last longer. Samsung’s fans have expected to have a 3,000 mAh battery on the S6 but perhaps the company had made a decision.

12

Samsung had upgraded the charger instead. Now you can get 70% battery capacity with 30 mins of charging. This is when the phone gets hottest.

Samsung Galaxy S6’s camera

13

In the race for higher megapixel in camera, where HTC has given its latest model One M9 a camera resolution up to 20MP, the S6 sticks with 16MP. The figure itself doesn’t mean anything. The camera is still great after all. Compared with the Galaxy Note 4, the sensor isn’t upgraded but the lens is all new.

It has an f/1.9 lens while most lens on smart phones are f2.0 (the smaller, the better). It’s not the biggest surprise yet as the low-light performance on th Galaxy S6 is way better. Night shots are clearer and brighter, and indoor shots will be far less noisy.

With a 16MP sensor, good light and great dynamic range, you will have wonderful shots. Samsung has recently become a master of HDR photos and it keeps offering even more options for the Galaxy S6. Auto mode is available as well as you can turn HDR mode ON/OFF. The purpose is to give you choices where needed. But nothing can compare with the full HDR shots. Without HDR engaged, you can take as fast as your finger can tap on the screen. Of course, it is in good lighting condition. At night, the speed slow down but still faster than Galaxy S5

The faster sensors gives you the ability to take arty effect pictures too. When shooting close subjects, you can have shallow depth of nicely blurred background. You can’t just get it with lower range phones.

The camera app interfere is awesome too because the HDR switch and other essentials are on the left side, while the shutter and mode selection are on the right side. It create a plain look as it should be.

One good news is that now, with Pro mode, you can manually choose focus, ISO and some other things for your shooting. You don’t to struggle with the auto-focus when taking macro shots.

The device has a 5MP front camera, which is now the standard of most smartphone. For indoor shooting, the phone does it well at managing brightness. Nevertheless, in lower light, details decrease. Honestly, HTC One M9’s UltraPixel camera does better work for selfie purposes.

Samsung Galaxy S6’s Sound

Without the Boomsound, does HTC still have the no.1 speaker? With so much effort, Samsung had made us surprised with the Galaxy S6’s internal speaker this year.

17

After having putting little speakers at the bottom of the phones for so long, Samsung has eventually put the Samsung Galaxy S6’s speaker to the bottom edge and put it on steroids. It’s louder and higher-fidelity than prior Galaxy phones.

The volume of sound of the Samsung Galaxy S6 is louder than that of HTC One M9 but the quality of sound seems equal. The HTC’s speaker (BoomSound) still rocks but Samsung’s is cool too.

Conclusion

18

For now, Samsung Galaxy S6 is considered the king among smartphones. Other than being an attempt to get us to hand in $500 or more, it’s an upgrade that fixes almost what is missing in the Galaxy S5.

It’s a new age of Samsung smartphones. One thing we are not pleased is its missing memory slot, where mediaholic may spend $800 to possess a 128GB version.

As for the camera section. The Samsung Galaxy S6 really crushes its opponents owing to screen tech and raw power. Sure there will be some part that HTC One M9 or other high-end smartphones will win but that’s just small number.

If you want to draw attention with flashy outlook and fashionable accessoried, the S6 Edge may be well fit, otherwise, a “flat” Samsung Galaxy S6 is acceptable, where almost every features are similar but the appearance.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 proves itself to be a strong competitor of the famous iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus or any other flagship phones.

After all, ranging from RM 2800 to RM 3400 is the Samsung Galaxy S6 price in Malaysia when releasing . This price is worth investing.

iPhone and iPad price rise after GST

From April 1st, which means today, GST are being officially levied in Malaysia. This put a tough decision for anyone who wants to own high-tech and high-fashion gadgets with an Apple logo because it’s going to cost you even more. This happens right after the price rise of iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 5S.

A 6% increase is applied for all products but the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus witness the the highest hike. The iPhone 6 is now priced from RM 2,702 for the 16GB version, which is RM 303 higher compared to its first price last year. As for the phablet iPhone 6 Plus, the price now reaches the height of more than RM 3,000. It is RM 3,126. Other products don’t increase that much since they remained unchanged after the revision a few weeks ago.
