Many of you were pleasantly surprised when Asus announced the Zenfone 2 on the CES. You get high end Specs on this 5.5″ device. In this review we will compare the Asus Zenfone 2 vs Galaxy Note 4. Both of these handsets are with 5.5″ inch in the case of the Asus Zenfone 2 and 5.7″ inch at the Galaxy Note 4 quite large. With high end specs on both phones we think it warrants a review of what you get for 200-250 USD versus three times the price on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Design
Lets start with the Design. Both the Asus Zenfone 2 and the Galaxy Note 4 have quite similiar dimensions, while the Asus Zenfone 2 is a bit thicker. Asus follow LG G3 Model and placed the volume rocker on the back of the gadget, while the Note 4 sports a more traditional button layout. The Screen-to-Body Ratio is always an important factor and here the Asus Zenfone with 72% and Dimensions of 152.5 x 77.2 x 10.9 mm, and the Galaxy Note 4 with 74% are also fairly similiar.

From a pure visual standpoint I could not decide which i like more. Both are rather large to carry in one hand and are not as compact as the LG G3 for example.You can say that both phones are definitely more understated and traditional design, compared to an iPhone 6 or HTC ONE, which is totally okey. If you like the Faux Leather of the Note 4 or the “brushed Metal” look of the Asus Zenfone 2 is probably up to your taste.

Display

The Asus Zenfone 2 sports a 5.5″ inch Display with a Full HD resolution of 1080×1920. The display is protected by Gorilla Glas 3 and you get very excellent 403ppi. 5.5″ is an ideal size for most people in 2015 especially at this price. To be fair, in the screen department the Galaxy Note 4 with its QUAD HD 2K AMOLED 5.7″ Screen tops the Asus Zenfone 2 though. In the screen department the Note 4 has easily one of the best screens on the market at the moment. For this price difference everybody should think twice though, if you really need a 2K resolution on a Mobile phone screen.
Processor and memory

Asus has a long standing tradition with Intel CPU’s in all their Zenfones. With the Asus Zenfone 2 they follow that tradition and use Intel’s new 64-Bit Atom Silicon CPU. The LTE capable Intel Atom Z3580 processor quad-core CPU can be clocked up to 2.3GHZ. The Intel Atom Z3580 can actually easily hold its own against Samsung’s Snapdragon 805 and Exynos 7 Octa Cpu’s in the Galaxy Note 4. Only in the Graphics Department Galaxy Note 4 might be slightly stronger.

One of the biggest surprise with the Asus Zenfone 2 was the memory though. The basic version might come with 2GB RAM, but the more expensive version has a whopping 4GB of RAM. This makes the Asus Zenfone 2 the first smartphone announced with more then 4GB of RAM. Even if you take the 2GB Version it does not mean the Asus Zenfone 2 cant hold its own against the Galaxy Note 4 with 3GB of Ram. The Meizu MX4 with 2GB of RAM reaches higher Antutu Scores then Galaxy Note 4, with a Mediatek CPU.

The Intel Atom in the Asus Zenfone 2 is very power saving as well and overall in the Performance department Asus gives Samsung really a run for their money.

Interface
The Asus Zenfone 2 is using Asus own OS the ZenUI on top Android Lollipop 5.0. You get a few new tricks and features in the ZenUI like ZenMotion and SnapView. Also you get Asus Instant Updates, which more then 15 Million Users of Asus devices use already. In general while ZenUI is not the most innovative UI, its definitely quite solid with Asus quality.

Especially in the Multitasking and Productivity department it should be hard to beat the Galaxy Note 4 and Samsung’s TouchWiz. A lot of customers compare about bloated Android Version’s on Samsung’s TouchWiz. If you look at it from a productivity standpoint the in combination with the S Pen the Galaxy Note 4 is a real powerhouse.

Camera

The Asus Zenfone 2 comes with a 13MP Camera sporting a 5-element f2.0 aperture lens. The Shooter also has DUAL LED FLash and you get a 5MP Selfie Shooter with 85 degree wide angle lense. The Galaxy Note 4 on the other hand sports a 16MP Main Shooter with OIS Optical Image Stabilization. On paper the Note 4 Camera should be superior.

You can have a look at these snapshots who compare Galaxy Note 4 and Asus Zenfone 2 Camera with the same objects. We are pleasantly surprised, especially on the low light pictures where we think the Pixel Master camera on the zenfone 2 even beats the Note 4. Asus claims that the Pixel Master lets 400% more light come in to their pictures and it seems in that respect. For sure you get high camera quality on both phones.

Battery Life

The battery life is always a crucial factor for a smartphone, even in times of very cheap PowerBanks. On paper the Galaxy Note 4 has a slightly larger battery capacity at 3220mAH versus the 3000mAH on the Asus Zenfone 2. The Galaxy Note 4 sports a very power hungry 2K Quad HD 5.7″ display. We need to wait for the first battery benchmarks to decide here. Both phones feature rapid charging technologies to charge your batteries quickly.

Asus Zenfone 2 versus Galaxy Note 4

Lets be really clear here we are comparing a 200USD smartphone the Asus Zenfone 2 to a 700 USD flagship the Galaxy Note 4. The Asus Zenfone 2 cant beat the Galaxy Note 4 on Screen Technology, Camera with OIS and added functionality with the S-Pen. If those points are not super important for you, you might just go for the Asus Zenfone 2. For a third of the price you get a really awesome phone which performance can keep up in many aspects with the 3x times more expensive Note 4. I think many of you might just do that.

There are of course some downsides with the Nexus, next to the high price. You cannot remove the battery like on the Galaxy Note 4 and you dont get a Micro-SD slot. Also the Nexus 6 is really quite huge with 10mm thickness and heavy with nearly 200gramm.

Xiaomi Roadmap 2015 has already confirmed that Xiaomi’s new flagship will launch on November 15. Now we see some new leaks, showing the new Xiaomi Mi5 including leaked case.  We have seen quite some leaked images so far and the image of the new Xiaomi Mi5 gets more clear.

Both of the new leaked pictures show the new Xiaomi Mi5 phone. The Mi5 looks great in those pictures without a doubt. What is really special about this design is that the Xiaomi Mi5 has extremely thin bezels. The bezels on the sides are nearly not there and also the bezels on top and bottom are very thin. This should give the new Xiami Mi5 an extremely good screen to body ratio.

At the moment there seems to be some discussion if Xiaomi is launching the Xiaomi Mi4S with MSM8996 chipset which is rumored to be the unreleased Snapdragon 820 in the November launch.While this is still up to discussion, from previous leaks we know a few points for sure about the new Xiaomi Flagship, the Xiaomi Mi5.

Xiaomi Mi5 Design: From all the reliable leaks we have seen so far and also from Xiaomi’s announcement poster we know that the new Xiaomi is going to be very slim. Probably you will see very thin bezels combined with a beautiful and slender design on the new Xiaomi Flagship.

Screen Size: From the reports and pictures we know that the new Xiaomi Mi5 is going to be significantly larger then the XIaomi Mi4. The Xiaomi Mi4 has a 5 inch size, which is admittedly a bit small against the competition in 2015. Most reports say that the new Xiaomi Mi5 will have a screen of 5.2-inch WQHD screen. Some analysts suggest, that Xiaomi is going to use Sapphire Glas, we doubt that part.

Processor: It seems to be clear that Xiaomi is staying with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Line for their newest Flagship. It is still unclear if Xiaomi is going to use the Snapdragon 810 or 820 for the Xiaomi Mi5. We personally hope that the Xiaomi Mi5 will come with Snapdragon 820 as the newest chipset in the late 2015. Normally we know Xiaomi is going for State of the Art Specs, so lets hope!

RAM: The real question here is, 3GB RAM or 4GB of RAM for the new Xiaomi Flagship. Most flagships, even in 2015 seem to go for the 3GB Variant, so logic seems to dictate that Xiaomi is following this way, especially considering price restrictions. On the other hand Asus showed us that a 4GB RAM variant of their newest Asus Zenfone 2 is possible. Xiaomi might just go crazy and go for a Xiaomi Mi5 with 4GB RAM. They have been known to surprise us all before.

Camera: Most reports and leaks so far have been quite silent about the Camera equipment of the Xiaomi Mi5. From Xiaomi’s announcements we know that the new Flagship Unique selling position is more on design and not Camera centric. Xiaomi Mi5 needs to compete though directly with Meizu’s MX4 and MX4 Pro. Anyhow, it still will work well with 20MP rear and 2MP front cam.

Fingerprint Sensor: We saw some leaks with a fingerprint sensor. We stay skeptical. Xiaomi knows how to listen to their fans and use their feedback for their newest phones. From what we can see fingerprint sensor is not really a feature that many fans long for.

After introducing its Redmi Note 4G into the Malaysian market, Xiaomi could be bringing its affordable Mi Pad locally very soon. The 7.9″ Android tablet was spotted in our local Malaysian SIRIM database with the model number A0101.

After Xiaomi recently introduced their Xiaomi Redmi 4G to the Malaysian Market we could very soon see the official Launch of the Xiaomi Mi Pad in Malaysia. The Xiaomi Mi Pad was just approved on Malaysia’s SIRIM Database, the equivalent to China’s TENAA.

Design wise the Xiaomi Mi Pad is very similiar to Apple’s Ipad Mini. You get a 7.9 inch display with a “Retina Solution” of 2048×1536, same as Apple’s iPad. One of the most interesting points about the Xiaomi MI Pad is the CPU, the Nvidia Tegra K1, clocked at 2.2Ghz. The Nvidia Tegra K1 is one of the most powerful Chips on the market at the moment and comes with 192 Cores Kepler GPU combined with 2GB RAM.

The Main Camera on the Xiaomi MiPad is a 8MP Sony Camera, combined with a 5MP Selfie Cam. With a huge 6700mAh battery, you get up more then enough power to enjoy Multimedia or Videos with your MiPad. The MiPad supports MicroSD, has only WiFi with 802.11ac connection though, no Cellular available.

Conclusion: It looks like the Xiaomi Mi Pad will launch in Malaysia very soon. After approval in SiRIM for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G, Xiaomi launched the phone exactly one month later. In China the Xiaomi Mi Pad 16GB is selling for 1299 Yuan, so we can expect a MiPad Price of 748RM here in Malaysia. We think the MiPad is an interesting choice, especially with the Strong CPU and Retina Solution display.

Lenovo has announced two new phones at the CES 2015, the Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro and the Lenovo P90. We already covered the Vibe X2 Pro, so lets talk about the Lenovo P90 with 64BIT LTE Intel CPU and a huge 4000mAH battery.

Design wise it looks more solid compared to the Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro, without the layered design. Have a look at the Lenovo P90 Hands on Pictures, the overall design is solid and rather understated.

The Lenovo P90 features a 5.5″ Full HD IPS screen with 1080p resolution. The phone sports a 64-BIT Intel Atom Z3560 cpu clocked at 1.8Ghz, making it one of the first Intel 64-Bit phones to launch this year. Also you get 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. Moreover the Lenovo P90 gets Intel’s new 5-mode XMM 7262 LTE modem which LTE-Advanced FDD and TDD for high speed Internet.

Lenovo did not save money in the camera department. The P90 comes with 13 Megapixel Main Camera that actually offers OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), 4K videos and Dual LED FLash. The Selfie Shooter comes with 5MP and 1080p Video Function. To round up this very interesting phone Lenovo gives the P90 a huge 4000mAh battery, which is very remarkable these days.

The Lenovo P90 will come to Asia in February for a price of 369USD, which is around RM1320 in Malaysia. We think the Lenovo is quite interesting, especially the huge battery and Camera with OIS. Still we are not sure how it will compete against Asus Zenfone 2 and Xiaomi models at this pricelevel.

In December Xiaomi’s president officially confirmed that Xiaomi will introduce their next flagship, the Xiaomi Mi5 in January. So far we have only seen the launch of the Xiaomi Redmi 2, which can not be considered a flagship. Now we have news from Xiaomi’s official Weibo Website, showing that Xiaomi will indeed show their next Flagship Smartphone on January 15th.

Once again Xiaomi’s official Weibo Site quotes Lei on the Xiaomi Mi5: “There’s no better way to start 2015 than with our newest products.” Xiaomi will hold the official even on January 15th as planned, in Beijing National Convention Center at 2PM.

On the poster Xiaomi says, that their next flagship will be ” thinner than the wings of a cicada”. The cicada is an insect found in China, and that probably means that slimness will be a huge design factor for the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5.

We already saw some leaks of a purported Xiaomi Mi5 with extremely slim bezels and a larger display of 5.5″ to 5.7″. Other then the extrem slim designn, many fans say that the Hands on the Poster might mean that the Xiaomi Mi5 will come with Fingerprint Scanner. We are not really sure on that part though.

Before we heard already that the Xiaomi will sport the brand new Snapdragon 810 and 4GB of RAM. While many of you remained sceptical, we saw already new phones with the Snapdragon 810 Launch on CES. And also a 4GB RAM Edition of the Asus Zenfone 2, so we might as well see those specs on the new XIaomi Mi5.

Conclusion: Finally we see the new Flagship of Xiaomi coming, this is going to be very exciting. 1. Asus Zenfone 2 Design and Frame

As you can see in our Hands on pictures, the Asus Zenfone 2 phablet is very compact with dimensions of 152.5 x 77.2 x 10.9 mm. It sports a good screen-to-body ration of 72%. This is especially excellent compared to devices like the iPhone 6 Plus for example which is clearly under 70%.

Compared to other Smartphones in that price range, Asus went the LG G3 way and manufactured the Volume button on the back of the device. You get a nice brushed metal finish for the back of the phone, which gives the Asus Zenfone 2 an elegan finish.

2. Asus Zenfone 2 5.5 inch FULL HD Display

The Asus Zenfone 2 sports a 5.5″ Display with a Full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, that we know normally only from much more expensive flagships. Moreover the Display is protected by Gorilla Glas 3 and features a very excellent 403 pixels per inch. For the Price of 199USD that is a very good display. Moreover Asus will catch the trend of 2015, with phones like the Meizu M1 Note and Xiaomi Redmi Note showing that 5.5″ inch phablets have the potential to sell like hotcakes.

3. Intel 64 Bit CPU andPowerVR Series 6 Graphics Performance

The Asus Zenfone features the 64Bit 64-bit Intel Atom Z3560/Z3580 quadcore CPU in combination with the PowerVR Series 6 GPU – the G6430, with OpenGL 3.0 support. Lets start with the Intel processor. The Intel Atom Z3560/Z3580 can easily keep up with more expensive competitors like the Snapdragon 800 and 801. If you look at the competition of the same pricelevel – speaking of Xiaomi Redmi Note for example or Redmi 2, the Asus Zenfone 2 easily wins.

The Asus Zenfone 2 features the PowerVR Series 6 GPU, and while it can naturally not keep up with the Snapdragon 805 found in the Galaxy Note 4, that is not the goal for a 199USD smartphone. It can easily keep up though with every smartphone at this pricelevel and beyond like the S4. Especially if you compare the Intel Combination versus phones at the same pricelevel with Mediatek Chips, Intel will surely win in terms of performance AND quality.

4. 4GB of Ram in the Asus Zenfone 2

Lets be honest, 4GB of RAM for an Zenfone 2 Edition makes the phone totally awesome. For us more RAM is always good and surely makes the Asus Zenfone 2 future proof. In Combination with the Intel 64-Bit CPU, you should get yourself a real multi tasking monster. For all of you who dont agree there is stil the 2GB RAM Version for 199USD Starting Price. Speaking of which…

5. Price of 199 USD

Lets be very honest here, the price is probably the biggest point here. For the price of 199 USD there is simply right now no better phone on the market. Sure you get the Meizu M1 Note or the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, both from China. For both of those its very unclear though when and if they be available outside of China markets. The Asus Zenfone 2 will be wide available and you get Asus quality on top, as we know it from the Asus Zenfone Line.

Conclusion: The Asus Zenfone 2 was just announced on the CES 2015 and will launch in March 2015. As you can see from our 5 Reasons why the Asus Zenfone 2 is awesone, we really like this device. I think Asus is going in the right direction with pricing and size of this device. 5.5 inch seems like an ideal size and combined with this specs, I think Asus has a real hotseller on their hands.

We have more exciting news from the CES 2015, this time from Lenovo. Lenovo announced the Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro with a 64 BIT Snapdragon 615 Octa-Core CPU, 5.3″ Full HD display and an impressive design. Lenovo even very boldly states that the Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro:“redefines smartphone craftsmanship through its unique layered design”

As you can see on our Hands On pictures, the Lenovo Vibe X2 has really a unique design, with the metal body and different layers that build the phone. The 5.3 inch display on the Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro comes with Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution and Lenovo guarantees good visibility even in direct sunlight. The 64 Bit Snapdragon 615 Octa-Core CPU is clocked at 2.5 GHZ and you get 2GB of RAM with the Lenovo.

For Camera Fans the phone has a 13MP Shooter both each on front and back of the phone. Both the 13MP Selfie Cam and the Main Camera have autofocus. Also you have the very cool feature of a Lenovo Vibe Xtension Selfie Flash, that you can very easily put into the Vibe X2 Pro headphone box. The Selfie Flash Ring has 8 LED Lights to provide you enough light for your Selfies. On a single charge you can take up to 100 Selfies. The Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro comes with Dual Nano Sim Support and of course supports 4G. We are not sure yet if the phone supports FDD-LTE, but normally Lenovo launches most of their phones in South East Asia, so we can expect FDD-LTE Bands.

The Lenovo phone is running Android 4.4.1 Kitkat with Lenovo’s Vibe UI 2.0 Operating System on top. We wish to have pre-installed Android Lollipop for a Lenovo 2015 phone here.

Lenovo bought Motorola from Google in 2014 for 2.91 billion USD and finalized the deal in October 2014. Lenovo is using the Motorola brand for the U.S market and Lenovo for other markets. The Lenovo Vibe X2 Pro will launch in April 2015, for an initial price of 499 USD.

At only 11.95mm it is moreover the thinnest smartphone ever with a 3X optical zoom lens.

The Asus Zenfone Zoom has a variable aperture from f/2.7 to f/4. Camera lovers need to pay up to 399 USD at launch in March 2015.

The Asus Zenfone 2 will cost you 199USD or 798 RM when it launches in March 2015 for the 2Gb RAM/16GB Version. This surely looks like a very good start to us for Asus in 2015 with the Asus Zenfone 2 and Asus Zenfone Zoom for Camera Lovers.

Just recently Meizu launched, the 5.5 inch Meizu M1 Note, easily the best Android Smartphone under 200USD. Now we got news that Meizu has another phone in the pipeline, to target the recently announced Xiaomi Redmi 2.

Meizu Boss Huang Zhang has confirmed officially on Weibo, that Meizu will launch another phone this year to compete direcly with the Xiaomi Redmi 2. Other news on this new phone come from Weibo’s Ubuntu Team, that have been a very reliable source in the past. According to this source, the new Meizu phone will be a real Redmi 2 “Killer” with much better specs and a 5″ screen. Also the new Meizu should be lighter and smaller then the Redmi 2.

We dont know anything more about specs, but its very interesting that the Meizu CEO Jack Wong ( also known as Huang Zhang) confirms this officially. We think that the new Meizu will be inline with the Meizu M1 Note in terms of design and looks. Probably Meizu will cut down in some areas like battery live or display resolution to achieve the Redmi 2 target price of 700 Yuan.

Probably this phone is actually the Meizu K52, that we reported about before. The Meizu K52 was rumored to sport a 4.7″ Full HD display and MTK Processor. It was also spotted with an iPhone 5C color shell. If Meizu is not planning to launch two more phones, it is very likely that the Meizu K52 is the upcoming phone.

Conclusion: The Meizu CEO confirmed the Launch of a Xiami Redmi 2 competitor with better specs. Lets be honest, the Redmi 2 has a fantastic price, but many of you would have liked to see at least 2GB RAM for example, so the Meizu K52 might be for you. Meizu’s strategy of targeting Xiaomi Business Model of high specs/low price + Online Sales only is for sure very interesting. If Meizu can satisfy the huge demands for their phones, I can see Meizu becoming a real Xiaomi competitor in terms of size and Sales levels.

LG has just announced the LG G Flex 2 on the CES 2015 and what a impressive phone the LG G Flex 2 is.

The first LG G Flex was a already very remarkable device and it seems the LG G FLex 2 is following the foot steps. The LG G Flex was the first smartphone with a flexible display. Very interesting was the ability to literally flex, and the “self healing” back panel, that healed itself after flexing the device.

Similiar to the first G Flex, the Flex 2 comes with a large 5.5 inch Full HD display and 1920x1080p resolution, but is slightly smaller then the first one at 6″ and 1280x720p. The LG G Flex 2 is also the first official smartphone to sport a Snapdragon 810 Octa-Core CPU clocked at 2 Ghz and 2GB of RAM. You get a 16GB or 32GB version, which are extendable via Micro SD. Android Lollipop V5.0 is pre-installed.

In the camera department the LG G Flex 2 sports a 13MP Shooter with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and laser auto focus as on the LG G3. The Front Shooter is a 2.1 MP Selfie Camera. The phone is powered by a reasonably large 3000mAh battery to support your 5.5″ Flex Screen.

Enough with the specs, though lets talk about what makes the LG G Flex 2 so unique. The curved display has a 700mm curvature and according to LG the display curves all the way, making it extremely easy to hold. Because the Flex 2 is curved, the microphone is closer to your mouth, so the sound quality should be improved.

The Back of the Flex is “self healing” and protected by a very fancy Glass that also bends. Compared to the first G Flex, the healing back restores itself very fast in only 10seconds at room temperature, while the first Lg G Flex took up to 3 minutes to heal.

The first big news of the year come from all our favorite Xiaomi. Xiaomi officially launched the new Xiaomi Redmi 2.

As we reported earlier the Xiaomi Redmi 2 stays pretty close to the Redmi 1S, but has some significant changes. The Hongmi 2 sports a 4.7″ HD screen, a 64BIT Snapdragon CPU and Dual 4G Connectivity. So you get the same size of screen as on the Redmi 1S, but the new Redmi 2 is more compact. As we know it from Xiaomi, the screen is manufactured by Sharp, and comes with 312ppi and HD 720p resolution.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is actually the first Xiaomi phone with 64BIT CPU. The phone sports a Snapdragon 410, quad-core Cortex-A53 clocked at 1.2Ghz, 1GB of RAM and Adreno 306 GPU. The Redmi 2 becomes MIUI V6, 8GB of internal memory that you can expand with 32GB micro SD.
