Many Chinese phone brands will release curved screen phones

Smartphone makers always to try to upgrade and improve their smartphones to attract more customers. And Samsung is one of these brands. In 2015, they brought Galaxy S6 Edge to the market. And immediately, this device caught everyone’s attention for its stunning design. With the dual-curved screen, the Korean giant broke the mould of smartphone design. And obviously, this feature becomes the signature of this brand.

However, a Chinese brand called Vivo “claimed” that curved screen phones are not only made by Samsung. In 2016, Vivo released Xplay 5 Elite having the same look as the one from Samsung. And now, not only Vivo but the other Chinese companies are also planning to feature curved screen to their upcoming products. Xiaomi, Huawei, Meizu and Oppo will follow Vivo’s step to bring this feature to their high-end smartphones.

Kevin Wang- a research director of iSupply China- had mentioned this on his Weibo. This news is probably true. Lately, Meizu is reported to hold an event to introduce its new product called “Meizu Edge”. Xiaomi, on the other hand, also has their own moves. The co-founder of the company is planning to visit R&D apartment of Samsung to discuss the curved screen technology as well as dual-lens camera

Curved screen phones will be the trend in the future?

Smartphones with dual curved screen have brought the “Samsung” brand more popular than ever. This feature is now the iconic feature of this Korea company. However, it will be no longer the unique feature of Samsung since these Chinese brand will release their product with this characteristic. And maybe curved screen phones will be the trend in the near future. And any device coming with this feature will have a high price. Because the curved screen technology is not affordable at all.

 

Lately, we have Huawei as the best brand smartphone for offline sales in China for last month revenue. Now, Oppo ranks No.1 smartphone maker in Chinese smartphone market.

Oppo: No.1 smartphone maker of June

June 2016 was very good for Chinese makers. It is Huawei for office sales and now it is Oppo for sell-through segment without much of a presence in many key European markets or the US. Oppo is a company that we have heard about every now and then, especially in Asia since most of their products were sold in such region. Now Apple and Samsung seem to put their eyes on No.1 smartphone maker.

According to the latest “Monthly Market Pulse”, Oppo made up 23% market share in June for overall China demand including both offline and online smartphone orders. As the graph below shows that Oppo is the number one smartphone maker in the country, which is followed by Huawei with 17.4% and Vivo with 12%. Back in 2014, when Oppo made its first appearance, Oppo had less than 2% of smartphone market share in China.

It grew to 6.1% smartphone market in 2015. The growth in 2016 was tremendous thanks to Oppo F1 Plus as well as Oppo R9 which was the best-selling phone in China in June 2016. At the same time, Apple’s share in China has walked backward to 2014 levels at 9% share, and Xiaomi made up only 6.8% market share despite its continuous smartphone release. Oppo is going to launch Oppo F1S and it is expected to expand its market share in August.

Oppo: how to save No.1 smartphone maker position

What will Oppo do to keep their crown from falling to Huawei for the year’s June-ending second quarter? Huawei follows in second place, more than 5 percentage points away from the new 22.9% share. Huawei and Xiaomi will never let Oppo to be the king in the next month. That is the reason why they release many new smartphones to different segment markets. Who will be the next No.1 smartphone maker?

In the top five best Chinese smartphone brands (Q2/2016), Huawei is standing in the first spot. Surpass even Xiaomi, Huawei phones are expected to be the new popular devices in China.

With Huawei phones, the brand is a new leading player in China

Recently, TrendForce- a Taiwanese market research company- has just unveiled the top smartphone ranks for Q2 2016, along with some numbers. With this report, we can find out which brand is ruling in the phone market. So, let’s have a look at the third largest smartphone market first- China. In Q2 of 2016, Huawei brand with Huawei phones is the name on top of the chart with nearly 21% market shares.

This is kinda surprised, right? Because Xiaomi brand is the most potential nominate for this crown. Not so long ago, on the Antutu charts, Xiaomi with Redmi Note 3 gets the number 1 spot on the “most popular smartphones” chart in China. And now, Huawei phones surpasses Xiaomi’s. This brand not only can’t be the king but also falls to the fifth position with 10% market shares on the “top five Chinese smartphone brands” rank.

Come in the second place is Oppo with 12.7%, right after that is Vivo with 10.6%. Lenovo with 10.3% is holding its spot on the fourth place. However, on the global chart, Huawei just stands in the third place with 9.2%. The champion title belongs to Samsung (24.5% worldwide market shares). The runner-up is Apple with 15.1%. After that is Oppo, LG and Vivo with the market shares of 5.6%, 5.4% and 4.7% respectively.

Chinese smartphones are rising

According to the TrendForce report, Samsung shipped nearly 77 million units. While the number in the Apple is 48 million. These are the huge numbers, right? However, the Chinese smartphone amounts are even bigger than the combined amounts of the US and Korea companies. In Q2 this year, the total amounts of smartphones from China get to 139 million units. This number has risen about 13.8% compared to the previous quarter. With this growth, the volume from this country can be even more than the global average in Q3. Maybe Samsung and Apple could lose the top slot into Chinese brands. Who knows.

An extra version of Oppo was just unveiled through Oppo’s teasers few days ago. It is a new Oppo F1S which ranges at average segment. 

Oppo F1S: is its specs follow Oppo F1?

Oppo F1 was the first smartphone the company claimed as a “selfie expert”. And now Oppo F1S seems to take this feature, Oppo confirmed the development of Oppo F1S selfie snapper will be 16MP resolution. Oppo F1S design looks like Oppo F1 and its performance is illustrated with racing car, which emphasizes its speed. Oppo F1 successor flaunts 5.5-inch HD display with AMOLED capacity, while Oppo F1 screen size is smaller with 5.0 inches. There are also two colors for your choice: Gold, Grey.

Oppo upcoming smartphone runs on the latest Android Marshmallow along with ColorOS 3.0 UI. Oppo F1S specs also include a 3GB RAM, which is standard. Alongside 32GB of onboard storage is expandable via microSD card slot. Moreover, a deca-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz sits on MediaTek chipset under the hood. The F1s is also reported to come with a fingerprint sensor on its home key, with a blazing-fast reaction time at 0.22s. A 3075 mAh battery will be sealed in the smartphone as well.

Coupled with 16MP selfie shooter is 13MP primary camera, which is opposite to other current smartphones. According to Oppo two new teasers for the F1s, there is a slogan which says “What makes you even more beautiful?”. They probably hint at some advanced modes and filters for the front snapper. To answer the question from heading, Oppo F1S will not similar to Oppo F1 in terms of specs, it will be even more powerful.

Oppo F1S: price and release date

Relating to what Oppo announced, Oppo F1S release date will be on August 3. Our sources also suggested that its price will not increase much from Oppo F1. Just so you know, Oppo F1 carries a price tag of $254 (RM 1030), so Oppo F1S price will be $309 (RM 1253).

Xiaomi Mi 5: 1st place in top 10 popular smartphones

China- one of the biggest smartphone markets in the world. This country is also the place “producing” a lot of smartphone manufacturers. So, it’s not easy to have a certain spot in this market at all. It’s even harder for a company to have a popular smartphone. But Xiaomi did that. According to a recent survey, Xiaomi Mi 5 is the most popular phone in China at this time. It takes the first place in the top 10 popular smartphone chart in China.

This phone has everything you want from a flagship of 2016. It is powered by Snapdragon 820 chipset and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Mi 5 comes with 2 memory versions: 3GB RAM-32/64GB ROM and 4GB RAM – 128GB ROM. For photography, Xiaomi added a 16MP rear cam with OIS and a 4MP shooter on the front. In addition to Xiaomi Mi5 specs, the champion features a 5.15-inch Full HD with a 3000mAH battery life.

It seems like a great year for Xiaomi. Because 2 other phones of this company are also in this chart. The runner-up is Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. The big baby Mi Max comes in the 8th place. This is a dynamic list and those phones are chosen by customers at the moment. The positions are not stable. Some phones may fall out of the list, some can join the top chart. And maybe next time, the other smartphones will be crowned.

Chinese smartphones are better day by day and some of companies from this country have the high position in the market at this time. In the recent list of top 12 best selling smartphones, 8 of 12 positions belong to those phones from China. 

Best selling smartphones: Chinese phones rule the list

Not only in domestic market, Chinese smartphone companies also rule in the international markets like India. Huawei – one of the biggest brand in China- is a typical example. In the last few years, this Chinese company has given its best shot and become one the largest smartphone companies of the world. However, it just the 3rd largest smartphone, because the top two positions belong to Samsung and Apple. These companies lead the charge of the best selling smartphones in Q1 2016.

And recently, IC Insights- an industry tracker- has just given the report of best worldwide smartphone sales leaders in Q1 2016. And it’s not a surprise when 8 out of the 12 companies are Chinese brands. Those companies take the 3rd place to 6th position and from 8th position to 11th place. The 7th and 12sc places belong to LG (Korea) and Micromax (India). The final position in this top 12 could have gone to another Chinese manufacturer – Gionee. This company shipped 4.8 million smartphones in the 1st quarter this year, just missing 200.000 units compared to India brands – Micromax.

 

Next, the 4th place goes to Oppo while Xiaomi and Vivo take the 5th and 6th spot. Finally, ZTE, Lenovo, TCL, Meizu are standing in the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th position respectively. Lenovo seems like to lose its spot when its growth rate decreased 26%. In the contrast, Oppo raises to the 4th place with the growth rate increasing up to 54%. Compared to the top 12 last year, Sony, Coolpad, and Microsoft are out of the list of top 12 best selling smartphones. As they only sold 3.4 million, 4 million and 2.3 million smartphones in the Q1 of 2016.

LeEco: a potential nominee next year

Chinese smartphone companies are gradually taking the other brands down. With strong specs and competitive prices, the Chinese smartphones are expected to continue ruling the list in the upcoming years. LeEco is a potential brand who is gaining market shares in China and India as well. We think that this one can be on the list next year.
