Do you know this Nokia 1100 is the best-selling phone in the world?

I bet that long before knowing about the first iPhone or those glorious smartphones we have in the market nowadays, we have all had a Nokia handset for once at least. When asked which is the best-selling mobile device, many people can tell it is a Nokia. But not every one can tell exactly which unit. Here it is, the super star of our mobile industry – Nokia 1100 – best selling smartphone EVER around the world.

Nokia 1100

12 years ago, in late 2003, Nokia launched the 1100 – a basic phone that had no camera or touch screen. Instead, the Nokia 1100 – targeted for the fast-growing Chinese market initially, came with a torch light, a solid body that could break the floor when dropped, and a dust-proof case.

It has been reported that, in just 3 months, the famous iPhone 6 has sold 71.5 million units. Ten how much more did the Nokia 1100 sell to keep the record? In about five years, 250 million units of Nokia 1100 were reported to ship all over the world. (And yes, back in the 2000s, 250 millions is not at all a “small” number). With this consumption, Nokia 1100 is not only the world’s best-selling phone, but also top the quantity of electronics devices worldwide in general! WOW

Nokia’s one billionth phone sold was a 1100 purchased in Nigeria in 2005!

So what does the Nokia 1100 have to make people so crazy about? Here are some quick facts about the legendary handset

1. Nokia 1100 price –> Amazingly Affordable

Although we can not retrieve the exact price of Nokia 1100 by launch date back in 2003, it was known to be very affordable, even for the living standards 12 years ago.

We found an Indian article published in August 2003, suggesting that the Nokia 1100 price back then was Rs 4000 (Which is $60 now and much cheaper then)

2. Nokia 1100 design –> Impressively Interesting

Nokia 1100 was only 86g in weight and featured anti-slip sides that offered a firmer grip and made it dust-resistant. They Nokia 1100 keys are also soft (faster to type) and dust-proof. And the cover is  interchangeable, way too cool!

3. Nokia 1100 battery –> FOREVER LASTING!

Nokia 1100 battery was 850 mAH. Wait, don’t judge yet ! It lasted up to 400 hours between charging times. Yes! That made the Nokia 1100 like a never-running-out-of-battery phone!

4. Nokia 1100 SNAKE GAME –>Part of your best memories

Yes!!! Be honest, you can never forget the legendary Snake game on this Nokia 1100, can you? Compared to nowadays’ magical Candy Crush or CoC, the Snake game is nothing to compare. But back then, it was the only mobile game that every one played. And it made 250 million people happy! That’s more than enough!

5. Nokia 1100 feature – best of its time!

With a size of a 2 match box, the Nokia 1100 had a built-in flashlight, a stopwatch, an alarm, a vibrating alert, 50 message capacity, 50 contact slots, 42 monophonic ringtones (36 pre-installed, 7 user-made). If you have lived through 2003, you will know what wonder was called that time.

Closing note

I bet you did, or at least, know some one who used to have one Nokia 1100 years ago (or it may even survived until now). Share this post to those who you grew up with and those who this Nokia 1100 reminds you of!

ZTE claims Huawei Nexus 6P Design copied theirs

ZTE has just claimed that Huawei “copied” their Athena (aka Grand S) design for Huawei Nexus 6P launched some days ago. Is it possible?

Recently, a post by the ZTE’s marketing head Lu Qian Hao on Weibo has stirred up the mobile market. It says that Huawei Nexus 6P might have copied one of their designs. At the moment, Nexus 6P is the latest flagship coming with strong specs and a beautiful look. But if Huawei really did it, obviously they would have to face a big trouble.

Looking at the comparison photos, we we can easily notice that the rears are quite similar, especially the interesting cameras on the back surfaces with the black bars across them, very standing out and creating a nice contrast.

However, though ZTE has spotted the situation, they seems not very angry. Moreover, they even make it sound a bit funny when talking about how Huawei “paid tribute” to them.

The mentioned device is ZTE Athena (aka ZTE Grand S), released in January, 2013, while Huawei Nexus 6P was introduced this month, October, 2015. Apart from the design, they have 2 different packages of features as below:

Right now, we are wondering if ZTE wants to take Huawei to court or not, and how Huawei will respond to ZTE. What do you guys think? Will things get worse in the next weeks?

The wearable Wove Band hands-on: Best world’s first flexible display so far!

“Polyera is a flexible electronics company” founded in 2005. They aim at producing next-generation flexible electronics and hope to bring consumers the greatest experience. That can explain the birth of their latest product – the wearable Wove Band. And we can say that Polyera has somehow wowed people when using Digital Fabric technology for the band.

Speaking more specifically, Digital Fabric tech replaces the brittle silicon material usually used for making thin film transistors (TFTs) with a flexible material able to help create a much more durable flexible display of OLED or e-ink type. Cool!

As for the Wove Band specs, it is an e-ink device featuring a multi-touch 1040 x 200 display and wrapping around your wrist. The larger end segments are where the battery, processor, and the charging port storage stay. Wove Band runs on Wove OS based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. For more details about the Wove Band specs, you can check out the following table:

Wove 0.1 Band is made with Polyera Digital Fabric Technology and E Ink electric ink film.
OS Wove OS based on Android 5.1
Display 1040 x 200

Input Capacitive Multi-Touch
Connectivity Bluetooth 4.0
Processor 1.0 GHz Freescale i.MX7 dual-core ARM Cortex A7
ROM 4 GB
RAM 512 GB
Battery 230 mAh

When you tap the screen, it will display weather forecasts, news headlines, and emails. However, for now we only can see a demo mode including a map navigation app, a recipe app, and an app for media playback with a basic user interface. Though, it’s already made us feel interested and look forward to the Wove Band launch as well as consumer release in 2016.

Hopefully, this device can help the company achieve their goal, which is that “devices are no longer hard, heavy, and cold, but soft, ambient, and organic.”

Now, it is time for you to enjoy some Wove Band hands-on pictures 🙂 .

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Design: ALL-ALLOY, even prettier than iPhone 6s

According to some news sources, we have very good news for Xiaomi phone fans and especially large Xiaomi Redmi Note phones.  Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is going to debut with super strong specifications soon. While most phone makers nowadays have already produced devices equipped with all-alloy design, Xiaomi seems to still be an outsider. However, things are going to change next year since Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is said to be the very first handset in the house to sport such a beautiful full metallic look.

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Specs and Design

Moreover, a leaked picture of the Mi Note 2 also has been seen recently. Basing on this pic, we think that Xiaomi Note 2 will be even prettier than other phones, especially the camera when compared to Apple iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. As you can see on the leaked Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Design the Xiaomi Mi Note’s successor will look more premium with all-alloy design.

For other Xiaomi Mi Note 2 specs, there will be a 5.7-inch Quad HD (1440 x 2560) screen, promising to give you great experience with images, videos, etc. Moreover, the new handset will be powered by the new Snapdragon 820 chip paired with Adreno 530, 4GB RAM plus 32GB or 64GB of storage. Other specs include a 3,500mAh battery together with Quick Charge and 3D fingerprint sensor of Qualcomm together with Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.

In terms of taking photos, Mi Note 2 sports an up to 23MP rear snapper and 12MP front one. Can you believe it? We know that everything can happen in this modern world where technology is developing incredibly strongly, but if the upcoming Xiaomi smartphone owns such a perfect combo, it totally can beat a lot of devices on the market.

Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Release Date and Price

It is predicted that Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Release Date will be on November 5, 2015, which can be followed by the Xiaomi Mi5 launch on November 15, 2015 if the Xiaomi’s roadmap released early this year comes true. Nonetheless, we do not think that two flagship smartphones can possibly be introduced in the same month like that. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Price will likely be at the same level as the Xiaomi Mi Note 1, with around 350 USD.  To conclude, we have just seen the back of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 but it is beautiful enough for us to hope, right? Though, no confirmation for this photo from the company has been made officially. So, take it with a pinch of salt 😉 !

Android Marshmallow update with Nexus, Samsung, Motorola, and…

We can say that Android Marshmallow is the hottest operating system at the moment. And we bet that many Android phone users are waiting for the day their devices will be able to get updated with this OS.

This 6.0 version is said to optimize the performance further by lowering the RAM usage and improving the standby as well as battery endurance. Moreover, it will support fingerprint sensor, security authentication, USB Type-C port, and ability to charge other devices.

Obviously, 2 latest Google Nexus machines (LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P) have been released with the on-board Marshmallow, but how about other Nexuses as well as smartphones of other brands?

Firstly we would like to talk about the older Nexus series. As what we expected, the new OS will be rolled out to LG Nexus 5 (2013), Motorola Nexus 6, ASUS Nexus 7 (2013), and HTC Nexus 9 (2014) and Nexus Player in early October.

However, LG Nexus 4 (2012) and ASUS Nexus 7 (2012) will not be able to receive the update due to the Google’s obligation of software support for Nexus devices. It is limited to maximum only two years while the aforementioned devices has three years of support.

Besides, some lists of phones going to be updated from companies like HTC, Motorola, Samsung and LG also have made their appearances on the internet.

Following the HTC list as we posted before, we now are informed of news related to Motorola, Samsung, LG and so on. For more information, let’s check out the following picture.

On the other hand, we are quite surprised when not seeing the just launched LG. Does it mean that the newest phone will be stuck with the older OS for a while?

In conclusion, we are glad to see this list covers many phones, which means users will soon be able  enjoy the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Though, we still need to wait for the makers’ confirmations. So, stay tuned!

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact gets complaints about overheating!

We have hoped that Sony could get rid of the “famous” Snapdargon 810’s heating issue when Sony Xperia Z5 and its variants came out. However, according to some recent reports, it seems like they have failed to solve the problem. Specifically, Z5 Compact body still gets hot more than usual.

As we know, for the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, Sony uses a dual heat pipe and applies a thermal paste directly on the phone to cool down the chip. Though, we wonder if the company also does the same to Sony Xperia Z5 and Sony Xperia Z5 Compact or not. But, maybe not!

One of the latest reports from China shows Sony Xperia Z5 Compact has been receiving complaints about the overheating issue. Moreover, it is said that when the phone gets hotter and hotter, the screen becomes sluggish with a lag and not as smooth as the beginning. In some other cases, the device even does not respond to the users and they have to restart the machine for some times.

Source: phonearena

To be honest, those are the things that have been predicted before since the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is quite “well-known” for the heating stuff. Most previous smartphones using this chip could not avoid the complaints. And despite whatever the manufacturers have promised to do to deal with prob, phones coming later and continuing to use the Snapdragon 810 processor are still doubted. Now, it is Sony’s turn! They will have to give an explanation and solution for Sony Xperia Z5 Compact.

Reportedly, Sony will probably release an update in the near future. Normally, phone makers will choose to reduce the speed of the chip to reduce the heat. Yet, can it make the phone users “cool down” as well?

Perhaps, foreseeing the situation made some other firms such as LG change to equip their new flagships with Snapdragon 808 (like LG V10) or other ones.

In conclusion, Sony still has to face the overheating problem coming from the chip built in their Sony Xperi Z5 Compact. Hopefully, they will be able to find out a good way to solve it!

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 vs Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime: Now we will look at them in terms of specs and prices 😉 !

xiaomi redmi note 2 vs xiaomi redmi 2 prime

1. Specs:

We notice that there are quite many differences of the looks and specifications. Though, what are they? Check out the following main points!

Obviously, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 has a bigger screen with better display solution than Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime (5.5-inch Full HD vs 4.7-inch HD, respectively). It can be due to the typical features of the sub-brands they belong to. If you want a phablet, Redmi Note 2 will be a more suitable choice. On the contrary, you just want a smaller one to put in your pocket, you would like the Redmi 2 Prime.

About processors, they totally sport different chips: one is of the MediaTek and the other is of the Snapdragon. However, the advantage goes to Redmi Note 2 thanks to its octa-core and 2.0+GHz speed, which will make the phone run better. Besides, the battery of Redmi Note is also much larger than that of Redmi 2 Prime (3,060mAh vs 2,200mAh). And as for the camera, with the combo of a 13MP rear and 5MP front snapper, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 does beat the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime’s combo of an 8MP and 2MP shooter.

For those important points about the specs, we have to admit that Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 completely beats Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime in this round. Do you agree with us?

2. Price and Availability

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 has been appeared here with Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 price in Malaysia of around RM950 while Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime has still not been available on our market. Anyhow, because of a more advanced package of specs, the Note 2 has a higher price than its competitor today. Yet, if Redmi 2 Prime is sold in our country, it can become a strong rival among the affordable devices nowadays.

In conclusion, all the things we have shown you above are for your reference. Hope that you can make a good decision and share it with us! 🙂

Carl Pei OnePlus co-founder says “let me be your intern” to Samsung!

Carl Pei, OnePlus co-founder, wanted to be an internship at Samsung and giant Korean company has not replied yet!
As you know, OnePlus was established in December, 2013, so it is kind of young when compared to other famous smartphone companies in China as well as in the world. However, it does gain much success thanks to the OnePlus One last year.
Even the OnePlus Two released this year also drew much attention from people due to the strong OnePlus Two Specs. However, they way OnePlus team decided to sell their products seems to cause many troubles for consumers.
Honestly, OnePlus committed many mistakes when going against the traditional selling method. Specifically, they implemented a tedious invitation system and just Chinese buyers were able to purchase a OnePlus Two freely. Many people were unhappy, which should have not happened.
This may be a part of the reason why the OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei decided to be an intern at Samsung company, from which he believed he could learn a lot of things about smartphone business. Is it actually a good choice, though?
“We are a growing company facing high demand from around the world. It’s not easy to make a smartphone; it’s also not easy getting it from our factory into your hands as quickly as you deserve,” said the OnePlus co-founder, and in another recent post on his blog named “Here’s an idea”, he wrote that: “Samsung was founded 77 years ago. Running a company that does so well, for so long, with such a wide range of products is an astounding feat by any measure. They’ve shipped hundreds of millions of phones around the globe through a multitude of sales channels; you can’t help but admire their operations.”
From what he announced on the social network, we can see that he was determined and even could pass on some information of what he learned at OnePlus in general, and engaging with the community in particular. On the other hand, he would also offer a swap deal, which was that OnePlus could host a Samsung’s executive and listen to how the start-up went about its business.
Well, do you think that can happen in the future?

BlackBerry teases Apple for their weak Privacy Policy?

It is quite coincident when Apple has just released iOS 9.0.2 to updated their Privacy Policy, BlackBerry also sent out a message related to that issue on the page of BlackBerry Priv, which is going on sale in the near future.

The message reads: “We at BlackBerry are happy to see Apple is now taking your privacy seriously.” In addition, they mentions it is BlackBerry that have been producing the smartphones coming with the most secure system during the past 20 years.
Besides, launching the BlackBerry Priv is also to remind people of the long history of this company, considered as the best symbol of valuing the customers’ privacy. And Apple is only at the second place.Of course BlackBerry did not just say; they proved it by posting a new photo of the BlackBerry Priv with the slider closed. Looking closer, you will see what is shown on the Priv’s browser. It was directed to Apple’s website, or the part containing the information of dealing with privacy, to be more specifically. We wonder what Apple will feel or say when seeing this!
In fact, BlackBerry Priv is said to stand out among many smartphones introduced in this H2 of 2015 since it sports a gorgeous look physical, a QWERTY keyboard put under the 5.4-inch Quad HD screen, and a newest Android operating system nowadays. On the other hand, it still can assure to be secure, and run the Google Play Store and any Android app without a hitch. That sounds great!
In conclusion, we have to admit that BlackBerry have their point when showing that a secure phone is very important. And with the upcoming Android device in November BlackBerry Priv, we hope that BlackBerry can really bring users the most safe handset as they said.Well, how about you? What do you think about the new strategy of BlackBerry 😉 ?

BREAKING: Xiaomi gets investigated due to saying their phones are “the best”

Of course everyone will be proud of the things they created and may brag a bit to others that they are they best. But, in case of Xiaomi, they just cannot easily tell the world so!

Reportedly, Xiaomi is under investigation since they have violated a newly passed legislation in China, saying that it is forbidden to use superlative wording in advertisement. This also means Chinese companies can no longer claim their products are “the best” or “the most advanced.”, according to Digitaltrends. For any violation of the law, penalties start at $31,000 (about RM137,522) and perhaps stricter penalties will possibly be brought into play if the severity of the violation increases.

As for the Xiaomi’s situation, it was said that a rival phone maker called Cong had reported Xiaomi to the authorities when Xiaomi announced their phone featured “first-class” and “the king of screens”, which could help the company gain more fame in the smartphone market. In addition, Cong CEO Tan Wesheng was also concerned such phrases could misled consumers into really believing it.

However, we should be careful because previously, another rival of Xiaomi was fined $23,500 (about RM104,250) for making false statements about Xiaomi company. And this time, we cannot exclude the possibility that Cong was just trying to grasp some attention. Don’t you think?

In fact, we all know that who sells things will use those familiar superlatives. Now they are banned, and we guess that new strange ones will be created. Like Apple, they constantly uses the words “magical” and “amazing” for marketing their machines. So, would Apple have trouble when putting ads up in China? Would that get the firm in trouble in China?

Well, we wonder how Xiaomi is going to deal with this issue and whether it affects much the Xiaomi sales in the near future. Let’s wait and see!
