Last update of Android 7.0 Nougat available

Google has just updated its Android 7.0 Nougat developer preview, which is the fifth and final release. This preview gives near-final system updates for testing before the real final release of Android 7.0 later this summer.

Previews from Android N to Android 7.0 Nougat

All the previews including this version was released alternatively once a month. The first preview was launched in March, the second was in April, the third one continued in May, the fourth in June and the fifth Android 7.0 Nougat developer preview is in this month. The release comes with factory images, which are Nexus and other preview devices: Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus 9 LTE, Nexus Player, General Mobile 4G, and Pixel C.

Back to last month, when the fourth developer preview was launched, it is included the final APIs for Nougat. Google hasn’t released a proper change log for this final version, despite the list of known issues with the latest update. Being released for hours, the latest Android 7.0 Nougat developer preview has some bug fixes as well as improvements.

Android 7.0 Nougat

According to Google, Android 7.0 Nougat developer preview 5 will consist of four major items:

  • System images for Nexus and other preview devices
  • An emulator that you can use for doing the final testing of your apps to make sure they’re ready
  • The final N APIs (API level 24) and latest system behaviors and UI
  • The latest bug fixes and optimizations across the system and in preinstalled apps.

How to get Android 7.0 Nougat updated

Users who are already enrolled in Android Beta Program, they will get the update right away in spite of Android’s website unavailability. The only thing to do is to get themselves registered and receive the over-the-air update. It is possible to manually update the devices. One more thing, if you find new bugs, you can report them to the N Developer Preview issue tracker or discuss them with the N preview community.
