HTC new smartphones: HTC Desire 10 Pro & HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle

The first of the 2 HTC new smartphones is HTC Desire 10 Pro. HTC Desire 10 Pro specs are leaked yesterday on GFX Bench. The first notable thing is that it will have Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow installed. That is an interesting choice, considering that Android 7.0 Nougat is already available. However, those specs may change with the release, since this is not HTC’s official words. Also, according to GFX Benchmark, this device will come with a 5.1″ display with Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440.

The smartphone’s performance will be driven by Quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.1Ghz, accompanied by 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. The Desire 10 Pro seems to have  12MP rear camera with auto-focus, face detection, and LED flash, with 4K video recording ability. The front camera will be 5MP for selfies and video chat. There’s no mention of battery yet, unfortunately. But based on these specs, we believe the battery capacity would be more or less the same with HTC 10, at 3,000mAh. This is the premium one of HTC new smartphones.

According to Antutu, HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle, one of HTC new smartphones, is supposedly a budget version of the released HTC 10. So naturally, HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle specs will be lower than HTC 10, and HTC Desire 10 Pro. Same as Desire 10 Pro, this device will have Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow installed. Desire 10 Lifestyle will have 720p (HD) display, no size was mentioned. Under the hood, there will be quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, accompanied by 2GB RAM. This may disappoint quite a few people. There will be a 13MP/5MP back and front camera combo. There will be fingerprint sensor at the back, and all physical keys will be on the right side. Three capacity buttons are located below the display.

HTC new smartphones: Price range

Same as specs, the price for these two new devices are only speculated. There’s nothing on the HTC Desire 10 Pro price yet. However, we suspect it will be around the same price of HTC 10 based on the specs, which is $699 (RM2,799). On the other hand, HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle price is rumored to be less than $200. If its specs are true, we believe that would be a reasonable price. But remember, everything is just speculation at this point. We need to have HTC’s official announcement. Oppo F1s camera on the back: The pros and cons

This is one of the few phones whose main camera offers smaller resolution than the selfie camera. On the back of Oppo F1s, there is a 13MP camera with different shooting modes. The Ultra HD mode allows users to take 51MP images by combining 4 photos together. The HDR modes results in better photos than the ones taken in Auto mode. However, The Panorama mode does quite an average job. The entire exposure and the colors are nice but when you view the photos on computer screen, you will obviously see the lack of details.

The Expert mode, on the other hand, is a nice experience in smartphone photography. This modes allows users to manually adjust the camera settings, including the white balance, the exposure compensation, the ISO and even the shutter speed. This function is not new, as Nokia’s PureView technology already offers the same in Lumia smartphones. But by adding such feature to Oppo F1s camera, Oppo has made the phone more professional and more “expert”.

Compared to its predecessor – Oppo F1 Plus, Oppo F1s camera captures less precise detail (but still acceptable). But instead of the oversaturating issue in previous Oppo device, photos taken by Oppo F1s are quite toned-down and more natural looking. However, the biggest problem of F1s is the auto exposure. In Auto mode, the phone seems confused in deciding which level of exposure is the best. This issue is clearly shown in subsequent shots. Though capturing the same object, each photo appears different from the other.

Compared to the selfie shooter in Oppo F1 Plus, Oppo F1s 16MP front camera is better, but there are still rooms for improvement. Though this camera is called the “Selfie Expert”, there are not lots of differences between the photos taken by the front cam of F1s and the ones captured by “non-selfie expert” like Sony Xperia XA or Sony Xperia XA Ultra. However, the new Beauty mode produces better pictures, though too much “beauty” still results in “botox” photos. So overall, Oppo F1s cameras take great photos, but does it deserve so much praise??
