Lenovo unveiled Six new Smartphones for the Malaysian Market today, three for the A Series and three for the S-Series. While Lenovo has generally a strong foothold in Malaysia there have been attacks on the low and mid end of the market from other chinese manufacturers like Huawei and Xiaomi recently. Lenovo Malaysia will have to fight back to stay in a strong market position.

The A-Series

The Lenovo A526 is a very solid smartphone, built for the mass market. The device sports a 4.5Inch FWGA screen at a resolution of 854×480. For the Hardware it uses an MT6582M 1.3GHz Quad-Core processor with 1GB of RAM with 4GB of internal memory (expandable with MicroSD). To better divide between your personal and business life it offers Dual-Sim Cards and it comes with an 2,000mAh battery, which is fairly standard. The best price for the Lenovo A526 in Malaysia we found is at RM 469.

One notch above is the Lenovo A680. Basically you get the same specifications as the A526 but with a bigger 5-inch display with a 854×480 resolution. Apart from the bigger display the specs are pretty much the same. The A680 is selling at a price of RM 499 in Malaysia.

You could say one more notch up in the A-Series is the A859. The A859 sports as well a 5-inch display with a higher resolution of 1280×720 IPS. It utilizes the same MT6582M 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM but comes with 8GB of internal memory and also has a better camera with 8 megapixel rear and 1.6 megapixel front for Selfies or Skype. The battery of the Lenovo A859 is at 2250 mAH and it is priced at RM719 in Malaysia, which makes it a pretty decent buy.

The S-Series

The S-Series is Lenovos Segment for the Medium Range. The S650 is sporting the same processor as the A-Series Smartphones with 1GB of Ram as well. The S650 is as well equipped with 4.7Inch qHD display at 960×540 8MP rear camera/0.3MP front camera and 2,000mAh battery. The device will sell at a price of RM 699 in Malaysia.

For 749RM you get basically the same specifications but a with higher batter power at 3000mAh with the S660. For this price you get a very decent smartphone and with todays heavy usage of smartphones the additional 50 RM investment in a bigger battery could be worthwhile for this Lenovo Smartphone.

At the top of the S-Series is the S860. While it offers the same processor as the others , it comes with a 5.3Inch 1280×720 IPS display and 2GB RAM with 16GB internal storage. The 2GB of Ram alone will make multitasking and running your apps more smoothly. On top of that it utilizes a 8MP Rear Camera and 1.6 megapixel front cam. The biggest advantage of the Lenovo S860 is the huge 4000 mAH battery that guaruantess you long talking times. It will sell at 1169 RM in Malaysia.

In general we can say that Lenovo Malaysia has a very strong position in the market by now. They are defending themselves with their very attractive pricing and increasing quality of smartphones like the super popular Lenovo A369i against high end smartphones from Samsung and Apple. Also they took over the Smartphones from Motorola and will probably launch another surprise smartphone next month. The race in Malaysia will stay exciting, especially with more chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi and Huawei coming in on the low range end.
