Yesterday, Xiaomi had announced another variant of the Redmi 2, the Redmi 2A. Basically, this phone is just an update from the previous one. Not many can tell the 2 phones apart but the specs. About the price, while the Redmi 2 goes on sale for CNY 699 (RM 416) in China, the Redmi 2A is priced at CNY 599 (RM357). Here, we give you an overview of some aspects when comparing the 2 phones.

Redmi 2 and the Redmi 2A share the same size (134×67.2×9.4mm) and theirs solid outlook. However, the latter is 1g lighter than the former. This difference isn’t worth noticing. With this size, both phones are suitable for anyone, even those with small hand.

Both Redmi 2 and the Redmi 2A come with the same 4.7-inch 720p HD display with the density of 312 ppi. This resolution is acceptable in most mid-end devices.

The Snapdragon processor is paired with Mali T628 GPU and 1GB RAM, while the Leadcore processor teams up with an Adreno 306 GPU and 1GB RAM. Practically, benchmark test showed more advantage of the Redmi 2A, where benchmark score of the Redmi 2 was more than 20,000 and that of the Redmi 2A is more than 23,000.

Having looking only at the storage, there’s no way to differentiate the 2 phone because they are identical. Both boast 8GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card. More space in the storage gives more convenience to users.

The price of the Redmi 2A in Malaysia is expected to be the same as in China plus GST. Judging the benchmark, Redmi 2A can be superior for lower price.
