Ubuntu powered Meizu M1 Note Launch in January

Last month Meizu and Canonical signed an official strategic cooperation contract. They officially announced to build a Ubuntu Smartphone Ecosystem which will help to promote Meizu’s FlyME overseas.

Officially Meizu and Canonical said that the first Meizu Ubuntu Smartphone would come in Q1 2015. Lots of you have been asking when exactly the Meizu Ubuntu will come. Now Zhang Heng, a senior manager at Meizu makes the issue more clear for you on his microblog.

According to Zhang Heng, the Meizu Ubuntu phone will debut probably on the CES and MWC, the two major global exhibitions in 2015. Zhang Heng also said that ” The Blue Note Charm is the Key to the UFO”.For all of you asking themselves now what “UFO” means, its “Ubuntu Flyme Os”.

If this information is correct, it looks a lot like we will see the Meizu M1 Note on Ubuntu very soon. Probably similiar to the “flyme powered by yunos” in cooperation with AliBaba, you will see Meizu’s Operating System FlyMe on top of Ubuntu OS.

To recap the Meizu M1 Note comes at a very cheap price of 999yuan and the first batch of 10000 units was sold out almost immediately. Now it looks like we finally get Ubuntu on the Meizu M1 Note, which is frankly quite awesome already in January on the CES 2015.  At the moment the Meizu M1 Note is easily the best Android Smartphone under 200USD and a combination with Ubuntu will be very exciting.
